Enterprise Canada and Women Who Lead Return for 4th Year of Women in Media Fellowship
With over 100 women health care leaders media trained across the country, the Women in Media Fellowship continues to make an impact.
Toronto, ON – On International Women’s Day, Enterprise Canada, a national strategic communications firm, and Women Who Lead (WWL), a not-for-profit addressing the gap in professional development opportunities for women, are opening applications for the fourth Women in Media Fellowship.
Over the past three years, Enterprise Canada and Women Who Lead have worked with over 100 women health care leaders from across the country. Through the fellowship, we equip a growing network of women to understand the media landscape, learn best practices for speaking engagements and media interviews, and discuss how to build a personal brand using social media and other online tools.
This program started as a passion project between Enterprise Canada and Women Who Lead who shared a vision of seeing more women represented in the media and speaking on important health care issues that impact the lives of Canadians. While women make up more than 70% of the health care workforce globally and play a critical role in keeping Canadians healthy through leadership, education and frontline care, their voices are often still missing in the media, at conferences and in the board room.
The Fellowship is brought together and delivered by a group of women who are experts in leadership, health care, communications, media, and branding from Enterprise Canada and Women Who Lead. In addition to skills-building workshops, the Women in Media Fellowship drives a broader conversation on the representation of women in media, builds an expansive network of women leaders in health care and gives women the confidence to participate and excel in media interviews and public engagements.
Women interested in applying to be a part of the free Women in Media Fellowship can apply here before April 5, 2024.
The Fellowship is limited to 30 spaces, and there will be dedicated space reserved for early to mid-career women, racialized individuals, and those that identify as having a disability. We use the term ‘women’ inclusively and welcome all that identify as such, including non-binary people. All are encouraged to apply.
“The influence of women in health care across the country is undeniable. From pioneering medical breakthroughs to providing frontline care, women have continued to move the needle on health care. Unfortunately, their voices continue to be underrepresented in the media. This fellowship’s vision is to equip women in health care with the skills and confidence to showcase and better advocate for the causes and communities they serve.”
– Laura Desveaux, Founder and Executive Director of Women Who Lead
“This program is something I look forward to every year – getting to know a group of leaders in health care and helping prepare them with the tools, training and confidence they need to take on media opportunities,” said Katie Heelis, Vice President, Enterprise Canada and Lead for EnterpriseHealth. “Nothing makes me happier than turning on the TV or opening a newspaper and seeing some of the women we’ve worked with. We still have a lot of work to do to close the gender gap, but we remain committed to doing our part through this Fellowship.”
– Katie Heelis, Vice President, Enterprise Canada and Lead for EnterpriseHealth
“Having been in this business for many years I’ve seen firsthand the lack of representation of women, from our board rooms to our news coverage. We’ve come a long way but there is still a distance to go. Witnessing the growth of the women participating in the Fellowship has been so special – the impact is evident and every year we see more women graduating from this program empowered with the confidence they need to navigate today’s media landscape.”
